Site Fighter
Site Fighter is a gamified website speed comparison platform built by Shro Web. It lets users run real-time head-to-head performance duels powered by live Google PageSpeed Insights telemetry.
The brief
Speed audit reports are long, technical, and ignored. Clients rarely understand why performance matters until the data is framed in a way that makes the gap between them and their competitors immediately visible.
Our approach
We designed and built a web app that gamifies performance audits. Users enter two URLs to launch a head-to-head speed duel — live comparative metrics, leaderboard rankings, and a terminal-style progress feed that streams results in real time.
The outcome
A live platform running thousands of competitive speed duels, used internally as a sales tool and publicly as a lead-generation asset.
Case study
Website speed audits are a hard sell. Tools like PageSpeed Insights generate dense, jargon-heavy reports that clients skim and forget. The performance gap between a client's site and a faster competitor exists — but it's invisible until you show it side by side in a format that lands. We built Site Fighter to solve that.
Why the Product ExistsSite Fighter started as an internal tool: a way to walk into a sales conversation with something concrete. Rather than showing a static audit, we wanted to let a prospect type in their own URL and a competitor's, then watch the fight play out live. The framing — a head-to-head 'duel' — makes the data instantly legible even to non-technical stakeholders.
Product Strategy and First-Version DecisionsVersion one was scoped tightly: two URLs, one test location, a live result feed, and a public leaderboard. We deliberately avoided feature creep — no accounts, no saved history, no API keys for end users. The goal was a single powerful moment of clarity, not a full audit suite. The product had to be shareable, fast to load, and work on the first visit without friction.
UX/UI ApproachThe interface needed to feel purposeful — part developer terminal, part competitive scoreboard. We used a high-contrast dark aesthetic with a limited red and white palette, no decorative clutter, and a step-by-step entry flow that gets users to their result in under 30 seconds. The live telemetry feed — streaming FCP, LCP, and CLS as they resolve — gives the wait a sense of drama rather than dead time.
Technical ArchitectureWhen a duel is initiated, the platform fires concurrent PageSpeed Insights API requests for both URLs. Because runs can take 10–15 seconds, we built a custom polling and streaming layer that surfaces live execution milestones back to the browser without page reloads. A Redis cache layer handles recent results to prevent redundant API calls and rate-limit exposure. The leaderboard persists fight outcomes to a lightweight datastore and ranks sites by composite performance score.
What Shro Built DirectlyEverything: product concept, UX design, frontend development, backend API integration, the async polling system, Redis caching, leaderboard persistence, and deployment. This is a fully owned Shro Web build — no external agency or client brief involved.
Current StatusSite Fighter is live at sitefighter.com and actively used as both a public tool and an internal sales resource.
What It Demonstrates to a Prospective ClientSite Fighter shows that Shro Web can take a product from a rough idea to a deployed, polished web application — handling the full stack: concept, UX, async architecture, third-party API integration, and performance under real traffic. If you're scoping a web app or data-driven product, this is what that process looks like in practice.
